Where better to host the “sport of kings” than South Beach? Since 2005, the area’s gorgeous beachfront has hosted one of the most prominent events in the world of polo, the Miami Beach Polo World Cup, taking place every November (date pending).
Drawing thousands of fans every year, this seminal polo event features an international lineup of teams from Argentina to Germany, with the world’s top players going after the coveted La Martina Trophy.
Leading stars featured in past events include Pamela Flanagan, Cristina Hosmer, Tiffany Busch, Stephanie Kraml-Suttle and Lynn O’Connor for the women’s tourney, and Luis Escobar, England’s Jamie Morrison, Holland’s Vincent Mesker, Guille Usandizaga, John Gobin (2009 MVP) and Kris Kampsen (nine-goalrer) for the men’s division.
Both the La Martina Miami Beach Men’s Polo World Cup IX and the La Martina South Beach Women’s Polo Cup V take place near the Art Deco district between 20th and 22nd Streets. With the Miami Beach skyline and endless expanse of the Atlantic Ocean forming the backdrop on either side, competition will be as beautiful as it is exciting.
To top it all off, the four-day cup features VIP every night, all ending in an illustrious awards ceremony. For those looking to support a good cause, a portion of the funds will be going to the nonprofit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami.
